Destination Moon

Chandrayaan 1, India's maiden moon mission marked its history on October 22nd, 2008 yet another space achievement for India after its launch of first satellite in 1975. Only after ten years of hardwork and dedication of the scientists at ISRO (Indian Space and Research Organisation) this dream of unmanned mission to moon could be possible. Its a scientific breakthrough for India and for young Indians who now can look beyond IT. Rocket science, astrophysics and aim to become an astronaut will be the budding dream among the young air of India and who knows one of them could actually take off from our own land to moon in near future.

This moon exploration took me back to my engineering days, the field trip to the Ground Station Complex at Shadnagar, Andhra Pradesh which is a data receiving center for Indian and Foreign Remote Sensing Satellites. where I was amazed to see the huge antennas and their use in receiving the data. The internship hunt at NRSA, Hyderabad, where the data was evaluated and distributed to various parts of the world. The data collected is used to study earth's climatic changes, ocean currents, precipitation etc. But years after witnessing the ever changing climate, polluted environment, global warming etc., makes me think about the greed of mankind to go beyond. Browsing through the net I found an interesting website where lunar land was for sale ....ah huh..real estate on moon ...not a bad idea to exploit another celestial body for our own purpose. I would like to know how the lunar embassy works and the rules on which it gives visas to aliens like us. But not to forget that though with this moon mission we might have our flag on moon's landscape along with four other countries but will not be able to own the land as of now...

I guess that day is not too far...

In order to popularize myself with space science and Chandrayaan 1, I visited the ISRO's website for the first time. It was interesting to know about the milestones achieved and their future projects. It was a proud moment for me as an Indian. We today challenge the world leaders even in the field of space science and make them feel the need to strive hard in order to sustain their leadership.

P.S: Ain't any expert....just shared my view.
